'Tis a New Year...clean slate...resolutions to be made and promises to self to be broken. Maybe this happened last year, but this will not happen this year. I approached this year a bit different. I spent some time developing my vision statement for 2008. Over the New Year's weekend I turned inside, got quiet, and looked at what was really important to me. I asked myself what do I really want to look back on when the year ends and what is important for me to do between now and then. I wrote the words, I found the pictures and knew my theme song and voila! I created my VISION statement movie.

I never considered myself a very creative person until I examined my limited belief that creativity is only in the musical or artistic arena. I find my creativity in my ideas and thoughts and making visions (mine and others) become real and that is exactly what I plan on doing this year.

This process was as simple as deciding what I want to focus on this year and then finding the images and words and music that are in alignment with that vision.

When I view my VISION statement, I feel it is very much alive and real right now.

On my website is my first version, long, 10+ minutes, but if you want to really see what I'm making happen this year...enjoy! (You need to be running on a PC for this version).

Through this process I have great clarity. I know what will happen for me this year. I have found out that visioning is applied creativity. I find myself being more creative and innovative in my daily life. I find that viewing my vision statement quiets my inner critics that bring up my well-worn thoughts, limitations, and self limiting beliefs.

Elephant in the Dark

Some Hindus have an elephant to show.
No one here has ever seen an elephant.
They bring it at night to a dark room.

One by one, we go in the dark and come out
Saying how we experience the animal.

One of us happens to touch the trunk.
"A water-pipe kind of creature."

Another, the ear. "A very strong, always moving
Back and forth, fan-animal."

Another, the leg. "I find it still,
like a column on a temple."

Another touches the curved back.
"A leathery throne."

Another, the cleverest, feels the tusk.
"A rounded sword made of porcelain."
He's proud of his description.

Each of us touches one place
And understands the whole in that way.

The palm and the fingers feeling in the dark are
How the senses explore the reality of the elephant.

If each of us held a candle there,
And if we went in together,
We could see it.
